Sunderland Foundation Awards $100 Million to the U. of Kansas Cancer Center

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Sunderland Foundation
$100 million to the University of Kansas Cancer Center for its new hospital that will house cancer research, treatment, and patient care.
Bezos Earth Fund
$50 million to local and international organizations that support conservation and sustainable development in the Brazilian Amazon region.
Education Cannot Wait
$40 million to Save the Children, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and Finn Church Aid to continue their resilience program in south Sudan for another three years.
The program will reach at least 135,000 children and youths and improve access to school, the quality of education, inclusivity for girls and children with disabilities, and resilience for students in Sudan who are refugees or survivors of major emergencies.
James Irvine Foundation
$35 million to support workers in California.
Among the grants was $10.4 million over two years to the Central Valley Community Foundation for five projects to improve economic mobility and job creation in Fresno.
Google.org
$20 million commitment to create cybersecurity clinics that will provide job training to students at 20 colleges and universities across the United States.
Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust
$18 million to Ben-Gurion University toward construction of its new Helmsley Computer Science Building, which will be built on the university’s North Campus in Israel.
The foundation also gave $9 million to the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa to expand care for people in sub-Saharan Africa who have severe noncommunicable diseases.
Ross Foundation
$10 million to the West Virginia University at Parkersburg Foundation to buy and renovate a building that will house its technology center and academic programs in computer science, computer information technology, applied technology in cybersecurity and networking, and mechanical engineering.
Veale Foundation
$10 million to University Hospitals to establish the Veale Initiative for Health Care Innovation.
Conrad Prebys Foundation
$8.1 million in unrestricted two-year grants to 18 clinics across the San Diego metropolitan region that serve marginalized communities, especially Indigenous, immigrant, and border residents.
JPMorgan Chase
$7.7 million to three nonprofit groups for efforts to expand housing affordability and stability for Black, Latino, and Hispanic households in Washington, D.C.
The grants are $4.5 million to the Coalition for Non-Profit Housing and Economic Development, $3 million to the National Housing Trust, and $205,000 to Manna.
Blue Shield of California Foundation
$6.2 million to groups that address health inequities in California.
Nearly half, $2.9 million, has been given to six organizations to back restorative-justice programs for families who have experienced domestic violence.
NeighborWorks America
$2.8 million to 15 organizations within the NeighborWorks network to plan, start, or expand programs in shared-equity housing.
Mellon Foundation
$2 million to Bard College to support the work of Tania El Khoury, an artist-in-residence in theater and performance at the college and guest co-curator at the Fisher Center at Bard.
Ray Charles Foundation
$1 million to Cedars-Sinai to continue its neurosurgery scholarship program, which offers research opportunities for students from historically Black colleges and universities.
New Grant Opportunity
The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance is accepting applications for grants to back projects that protect the historical record of the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma, or counter misinformation about the history of the Holocaust. Organizations must collaborate with organizations in a different country to be eligible, and priority this year will be given to partnerships that include a group in Ukraine. A total of approximately $500,000 (€450,000) of funding is available this year; partnerships may apply for up to $54,000 (€50,000) over two years. Project abstracts are due September 29.
