SunTrust Foundation Gets New Leader

Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals

Carolyn Berkowitz, the former president of the Capital One Foundation and co-founder of Mission Partners, will become president and CEO on July 2. She will succeed Mark Shamley, who is stepping aside after nearly 11 years.

SunTrust Foundation

Stan Little, senior vice president for marketing strategy and operations at SunTrust Banks, has been named president of the bank’s $205 million corporate foundation. He will succeed David Fuller, who plans to retire at the end of March.

American Enterprise Institute

Arthur Brooks intends to step down as president in mid-2019. He has led the conservative think tank since 2009.

Metropolitan Opera

James Levine, music director emeritus and artistic director of its young-artist program, has been dismissed following several allegations of sexual abuse and harassment.

More New CEOs

Frank Daidone, who has served as acting president and CEO of the Nurse-Family Partnership since September, has been installed permanently in the top role. He was previously chief operating officer of the Denver charity.


Ellen Davis, senior vice president for research and strategic initiatives at the National Retail Federation and executive director of its foundation, has been promoted to president of the foundation.

Scott Flagel, a retired executive at the Eddy Senior Living Communities, has been appointed executive director of Lighthouse of Collier, a nonprofit group that provides services for people with vision loss in Florida.

James McDonald, retired managing director for global philanthropy and employee programs at BNY Mellon, has joined the executive-search firm Nonprofit Talent as executive adviser.

Trevor Parry-Giles, interim executive director and director of academic and professional affairs at the National Communication Association, was appointed permanently to the leadership role.

Bob Preloger, retired vice president for advancement at Augustana University, has been named interim vice president for institutional advancement at Dakota State University and head of the DSU Foundation.


Other Notable Appointments

Angela Carter-Blackshear, director of residential and case management at Covenant House of Georgia, has been appointed director of housing programs at United Friends of the Children.

James Digan has been named senior vice president for institutional advancement at Baylor College of Medicine. Most recently, he was director of the Zweig Foundation, a family foundation in New York.

Jason Menzo, vice president and business unit lead at Sun Ophthalmics, has become chief operating officer at the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Departures

Donna Vuchinich, president of the University of Hawaii Foundation since 2004, plans to retire this year. She led two capital campaigns during her tenure, which raised more than $836 million combined for the university.

Legacies

Charles Bergman, the longtime chairman and CEO of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, died in late February. He was 84. Following the deaths of his friends the painters Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, he guided the creation of a foundation from their estate. The foundation to date has made $71 million in grants to artists around the world.
