With the help of the charity World Vision, needy people in Africa will soon be outfitted in Chicago Bears championship gear—even though the team lost the Super Bowl championship game to the Indianapolis Colts, reports The New York Times.
Before each year’s championship game, Reebok and the National Football League print two sets of T-shirts and caps declaring both teams Super Bowl winners.
The winners get to take theirs home, but the losing team’s gear is quickly hidden, boxed, and shipped overseas by World Vision. The charity’s workers hand out the clothes to families at a community center, usually in Africa.
“Where these items go, the people don’t have electricity or running water,” said Jeff Fields, a corporate relations officer at World Vision. “They wouldn’t know who won the Super Bowl. They wouldn’t even know about football.”
