Tax Agency Web Site Adds Information

July 21, 2005 | Read Time: 1 minute

The portion of the IRS Web site designed for charities and other tax-exempt organizations now includes a page of recent testimony at Congressional hearings by key officials of the revenue service. The testimony focuses on such topics as government enforcement of tax laws and its oversight of nonprofit hospitals and other health-care organizations.

The Web site also has an updated page of questions and answers about the redesigned IRS Form 1023 that is used by organizations seeking charity status. The government reworked the form earlier this year to give the IRS data that will allow the agency to spot potential abuses by nonprofit organizations.

The testimony and Form 1023 information may be found at http://www.irs.gov/charities/index.html.

At the same site, the IRS invites the public to read — and subscribe to — editions of its Exempt Organizations Update, an online newsletter that describes the tax agency’s current activities and new information it makes available.
