Teach for America Plans for Big Growth
June 22, 2006
Teach for America hopes to call itself the top employer of recent
college graduates, a goal that it is pursuing with an expansion plan that takes a page from Wall Street, reports the Associated Press.
The New York charity has 90 full-time recruiters and wants to expand the number of regions where it works from 22 to 33 by 2010.
Its success has opened it up to more criticism. Linda
Darling-Hammond, a Stanford education professor, says the program does not adequately prepare its teachers, a charge the charity disputes.
