Tenn. Man to Donate Most of $115-Million Lottery Windfall

The winner of the largest lottery prize in Tennessee history says he will put most of his winnings into supporting the arts, BuzzFeed writes.

Roy Cockrum, 58, of Knoxville, claimed the $259.8-million Powerball prize Thursday, opting to take a lump-sum payment that will amount to $115-million after taxes. The former actor said he will set aside enough to support himself, then starting giving to a “long list of charities,” with most of the money going to an arts-focused foundation.

Mr. Cockrum said several years he spent living under a vow of poverty as a member of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, an Episcopal monastic organization, prepared him for giving away the lottery windfall.
