Texas Governor Getting Heat for Donations

February 26, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

The blog Don’t Tell the Donor routinely offers interesting tidbits about strange doings involving fund raising in the nonprofit world.

But the blog, which does not reveal the author’s identity, has spent quite a bit of time recently talking about the fund-raising activities of Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The New York Times reported last week that Governor Perry had accepted donations from the Merck pharmaceutical company around the time he was ordering that all girls entering sixth grade in Texas be administered the Merck-produced cervical cancer vaccine.

After devoting a post on Saturday to the issue, Don’t Tell the Donor was back again on Sunday, pointing out that he was due to be honored in Washington for his efforts in raising money for the Republican party.

“On Monday, Governor Perry will be lauded for his fund-raising prowess after raising more than $9.4-million for the Republican Governors Association meeting with President Bush. (You may still be able to go if you are in Washington, D.C. and you have $1,000.),” Don’t Tell the Donor writes.
