The Mr. Blackwell of the Nonprofit World?

January 14, 2008 | Read Time: 1 minute

Need a dose of fashion advice with a charity twist? Then check out the DC Goodwill Fashionista’s blog.

The blog, which is sponsored by the Washington chapter of Goodwill Industries, includes the anonymous author’s musing on pop culture, clothes, the nonprofit group’s charitable efforts — and the Goodwill Good Buy of the Week.

She recently wrote about the news that the Golden Globes award show is cancelled (“good riddance,” she says), a pair of black leather Charles David boots available on Goodwill’s online store (“Make no mistake: These are some serious fashionista boots”), and one of the charity’s best outfits: the blue and yellow gowns graduates of its job-training program wear.

The unusual blog is earning attention. Jeff Trexler, author of the
Uncivilsociety blog and a professor of social entrepreneurship at Pace University, applauds the column, saying that like other fashion writers, the Goodwill Fashionista includes “a fair bit of snark” in her blog.

What do you think? Are there other nonprofit fashion blogs? Are
Charles David boots a good buy? Click on the comments link below this post to share your thoughts.
