Donors’ background: Mr. Spitzer founded Spitzer Engineering, a real-estate development and management company in New York. Mrs. Spitzer teaches English literature at Hunter College, in New York, an institution within the City University of New York system.

Mr. Spitzer, 85, and his wife, Anne, 82, pledged $25-million to the City College of New York to benefit its School of Architecture. The money will support undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, faculty research, and other programs in the architecture school.

No details were available about a payment schedule.


Mr. Spitzer graduated from City College in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He serves on the board of the City College 21st Century Foundation.
