Three organizations have received large gifts or pledges:

  • The Overture Foundation, in Madison, Wis., has announced that W. Jerome Frautschi, former owner of Webcrafters, a printing press in Madison, has promised to pay for a new center for the arts. Mr. Frautschi has said that he will pay for the construction of the Overture Center for the Arts — which is estimated to cost $205-million — and then turn the building over to the foundation.
  • Tulane University, in New Orleans, has received two gifts of $30-million each from Jim Clark, co-founder of Netscape, in Mountain View, Calif., and David Filo, co-founder of Yahoo, in Sunnyvale, Calif., for the university’s endowment. Mr. Clark attended Tulane and serves on its board. Mr. Filo received a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the university.
  • The University of Connecticut Health Center, in Farmington, has received $10-million from Ray and Carole Neag, of Wyomissing, Pa., for the center’s cancer program. Mr. Neag graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1956 and is retired co-founder and vice chairman of Arrow International (Reading, Pa.), a company that manufactures medical products. His wife is a registered nurse.
