The $1.2-billion San Francisco Foundation has hired Oakland City Administrator Fred Blackwell as its new chief executive officer, the Oakland Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle write.
Mr. Blackwell moved into Oakland’s top management post only last month after serving since October 2011 as assistant city manager. He said he had applied for the charity job late last year while still serving as a City Hall deputy and had not expected to get it.
“I was in the unenviable position of getting both of my dream jobs offered to me almost simultaneously,” he said.
The foundation disburses about $90-million a year in grants to organizations across five Bay Area counties and is active in Oakland. Mr. Blackwell will take office in June, replacing Sandra Hernandez, who stepped down in October.
