Treasury Secretary to Give Away $800-Million

January 16, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

Henry Paulson, Secretary of the U.S. Treasury and former chairman of Goldman Sachs, plans to give away an estimated $800-million from his personal fortune to charity, reports Financial News.

Last March, in a quiet transaction, Mr. Paulson gave $100-million in Goldman stock to the Bobolink Foundation, an environmental organization he founded. Mr. Paulson has long promoted environmental causes—he has served as chairman of the Nature Conservancy—and his future philanthropy will also focus on preservation and conservation, said the newspaper.

The article also reports that Mr. Paulson plans to devote himself full-time to philanthropy when he steps down from his government appointment, probably after the next presidential election.
