Tuition Program Sees Positive First Results

May 31, 2006

Six months after anonymous donors promised to pay a large portion of tuition for Kalamazoo, Mich., students to attend a state university or community college, public-school officials say more families are considering moving to the city of 77,000 and the high-school dropout rate has declined, reports The Washington Post.

The program, known as the Kalamazoo Promise, is expected to operate indefinitely and cost up to $14-million per year.
