Twin Cities See Surge in Giving for the Arts

June 13, 2006

A recent surge of arts philanthropy is ushering in what some are calling a cultural “renaissance” in the Twin Cities, reports the StarTribune, which covers Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Guthrie Theater—both of which will unveil new expansions this month—as well as the Walker Art Center and the Children’s Theatre Company have raised a cumulative $364-million in recent capital campaigns.

The unprecedented level of activity reflects new interest by individuals, corporations, and foundations in trying to raise the cultural profile of the Twin Cities region, according to the article.
