Raise More Money: The Best of the Grassroots Fundraising Journal
edited by Kim Klein and Stephanie Roth
Edited by the publishers of the Grassroots Fundraising Journal, this book offers fund-raising ideas gleaned from the editors’ choice of the 56 best and most useful articles that have appeared in the magazine’s 20-year history.
The articles, some of which have been updated, are divided into five subject areas: principles and philosophy, planning, fund-raising strategies, organizational and board development, and fund raising as a profession.
In the principles and philosophy section, one author offers up the 10 biggest mistakes she made in her 17 years of fund raising, such as “seeing donors as water faucets: turning them on when I want money, and leaving them off otherwise.” Another explores the question of “clean” and “dirty” money.
Other subjects include choosing the most-effective fund-raising strategy, getting over the fear of asking, cultivating donors, and coping with the loss of foundation and government funds.
