The environmental program of the Pew Charitable Trusts and the National Environmental Trust have joined together to form the Pew Environment Group, reports The Washington Post.
The new group will be led by Joshua S. Reichert, director of Pew’s environment program, who will serve as managing director. Philip Clapp, president of the National Environmental Trust, will serve as deputy managing director.
The organization will have an annual operating budget of approximately $70-million and become one of the world’s largest marine-conservation organizations.
Mr. Clapp says of the merger, “The challenges are so enormous and we have such a short window of time to solve the problem, we decided we had to change the way we operate.”
