Tyler Nickerson, founding director of investments and state strategy at the Solutions Project, has been appointed vice president of commercial banking at Amalgamated Bank. In this role, he will lead the bank’s financial strategy for its foundation and philanthropic clients. Nickerson is a frequent contributor to the Chronicle.

Genesys Works Houston

Katherine Taylor, program director, has been promoted to executive director of the Houston affiliate of this youth-mentoring organization. She will succeed Marian Davenport, who plans to retire in December.

Grantmakers for Education

Celine Coggins, founder and CEO of Teach Plus, has been named executive director. She will succeed Ana Tilton, who intends to step down in October.

Jessie Cronan, executive director of Gardens for Health International, has joined Social Venture Partners Boston as its executive director.

Simon Godwin, associate director at the Royal National Theatre, has been chosen as the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s next artistic director. He will succeed Michael Kahn at the end of the 2018-19 season next summer.

Graham Hoffman, deputy director of development at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, has been appointed CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona.

Jocelyn Lee, a former history teacher at Menlo-Atherton High School, in California, has become executive director of the Foundation for a College Education. She succeeds Anna Waring, who has stepped down after 11 years at the helm.

The $217 million grant maker in San Francisco has hired two senior staff members.

Angie Chen, founding executive director of the Blue Sky Funders Forum, has been appointed senior program officer.

Ashley Clark, director of grantee impact and strategic initiatives at the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund, joined the foundation as knowledge and grants manager.

Amichaim Abramson has been appointed chief strategy officer of DRG Search, an executive-search firm that works with nonprofit groups. Previously he was chief financial officer and senior vice president for strategic initiatives at Ride Entertainment.

Brandon Baker, assistant dean of external affairs at the Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California at Los Angeles, has joined the RAND Corporation as vice president for development.

Noelle Bartl, executive director of the Eastern New Mexico University Foundation, has been promoted to associate vice president for advancement at the university.

Patricia Goldman has been named vice president for advancement and external affairs at Sarah Lawrence College. Most recently she was senior vice president for marketing and communications at the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation.

Jimmiel Mandima, director of program design and partner relations at the African Wildlife Foundation, has joined the International Fund for Animal Welfare as deputy vice president for conservation.

Derrick Spiva Jr., a composer and music educator, has been named artist educator at the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.

Judy Price Taylor, executive director of the ALS Association’s DC/MD/VA Chapter, has been appointed chief advancement officer at the National Breast Cancer Coalition.

Fady Zeidan, deputy general counsel of the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group, will be the new general counsel for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Jan Kennedy Ferguson, program director at the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust for two decades, has retired.

Legacy

Rachel Cowan, a rabbi who led the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, died August 31 of brain cancer. She was 77. Before joining the institute in 2004, she spent 14 years as program director for Jewish life at the Nathan Cummings Foundation.
