U. of Michigan Gets $25-Million for Maternal Health Center
October 9, 2014
The University of Michigan has received an anonymous $25-million donation for efforts to improve health outcomes for childbearing women in Africa, the Detroit Free Press writes.
The funds will establish a new center for reproductive health training at the university health system’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The center’s goal is to increase the quality and availability of reproductive health providers in Africa, where women suffer disproportionately from unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, sexually transmitted diseases, and death in childbirth.
