Major-Gift Fundraising

U. of Wisconsin Raises $250 Million After Matched Gifts Exceed Expectations

September 8, 2015

Donors to the University of Wisconsin exceeded a match challenge proposed last November by alumni couple John and Tashia Morgridge, who gave $100 million for named professorships, chairs, and distinguished chairs. More than 1,000 donors gave a total of $125 million, which the Morgridges have agreed to match, bringing the grand total to $250 million, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The couple expected it to take two or three years to raise the money, but it took just seven months to raise $125 million.
