UCLA Announces $4.2-Billion Capital Campaign

May 16, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

The University of California at Los Angeles has launched the public phase of a $4.2-billion fundraising drive, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Announcing the drive Thursday, the institution set a deadline of 2019, which marks the centennial of the state system’s first Southern California campus. The new funds will be used to increase student financial aid, boost faculty hiring and research, and construct new campus buildings.

University officials said UCLA has raised about $1.3 billion in the “quiet phase” of the campaign, which began in 2011. The overall target eclipses the University of Michigan’s $4-billion goal in a current campaign. Private institutions such as Stanford, Harvard, and the University of Southern California have completed or are in the midst of $6-billion-plus drives.
