U.N. Foundation Names Head of Girls and Women Strategy; New CFO at Gates

Michelle Milford Morse has joined the foundation as vice president of its girls and women strategy. Previously she worked the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on its global health policy and advocacy team.

Carolyn Ainslie has been tapped as its chief financial officer, effective October 1. Ainslie currently works at Princeton University as its vice president for finance and treasurer.
Environmental Defense Fund
Amanda Leland, who led the conservation charity’s oceans program for the past six years, was promoted to executive vice president and will oversee its core programs.
Kathleen McGinty will now serve as senior vice president of its oceans program. McGinty served in President Clinton’s administration as deputy assistant to the president and chair of the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality. She later became Pennsylvania’s secretary of environmental protection.

Jane Chu, who left as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts in June, has become an arts adviser at the public television network. In her new role, Chu will develop efforts to expand diversity and access to arts programming and pursue collaborations among public media, donors, and local arts organizations nationwide.

Hannah Cox has been named national manager of Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty. She was previously director of outreach at the Beacon Center of Tennessee.
Toinette Gunn will be the new executive director of the Chicago Debate Commission. Most recently she was vice president for programs at Chicago Scholars.
Nancy Gutiérrez, chief strategy officer at the NYC Leadership Academy, has been promoted to president and CEO, effective October 1. She succeeds Irma Zardoya, who has led the education group since 2011.
Karen Murphy, director of operations for the Fellowship of Reconciliation, will serve as the Camphill Foundation’s executive director. She succeeds Shelley Burtt, who has stepped down after eight years.
Marietta Rodriguez, interim senior vice president for national initiatives at NeighborWorks America, was promoted to president and CEO. She succeeds Jeffrey Bryson, who has served as interim president and CEO since September and previously was its general counsel and corporate secretary. Bryson will retire after Rodriguez takes the helm next month.

Katherine Taylor, senior program director, has been promoted to executive director. She succeeds Marian Davenport, who will retire at the end of the year.
This Houston nonprofit group, which connects high-school students with work opportunities, has also named two new leaders of regional affiliates.
Mike Gross has been named the first executive director of its New York operations. Previously he was the East Coast executive director at Springboard Collaborative.
Mioshi Moses, director for board relations at Children’s National Health System, has become executive director of its National Capital Region.

The child-welfare agency in New York has added two senior leaders to its team.
Raye Barbieri, a licensed clinical social worker and the senior director of youth and community justice programs and planning at the Center for Court Innovation, has been named chief program officer.
Tanya Hackel, director of development at the Hebrew Free Loan Society, has become chief development and communications officer.
Other Notable Appointments
Sue Elliott has joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as director of the Tanglewood Learning Institute. She was most recently the director of the Royal Conservatory of Music, in Toronto.
Philippe François, the head of supply chain at Novartis, the health-care company based in Switzerland, will serve as head of sourcing and supply chain at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
Ashley Lomery, assistant vice president for development at Temple University, has been appointed chief development officer at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Jaime Moreno, director of marketing and communications at Nurse-Family Partnership, has been promoted to vice president for marketing and communications.
Kim Newman, a biology and technology teacher at Camas High School, in Camas, Wash., has joined the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust as a program director. She will also lead its Partners in Science Program.
Legacies
Jerry Panas, who founded the fundraising consulting group Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners in 1968 and served as its chief executive, died on July 14. He was 89.
