March 10, 2006

The United Nations this week announced it will establish a disaster-relief fund with hopes of raising $500-million for global emergencies, reports the Associated Press. The organization says the Central Emergency Response Fund will allow humanitarian workers to respond faster to disasters and provide aid to parts of the world that are being neglected by other donors. So far, the fund has received pledges worth $236-million.
