The Uris Brothers Foundation, in New York, announced last month that it would close its doors after making $30-million in grants to New York institutions.
The Uris Brothers Foundation was formed in 1957 by the real- estate developers Harold and Percy Uris. The three daughters of Harold Uris, all of whom were officers of the Uris Brothers Foundation, each plan to create her own foundation to carry on the family’s philanthropic tradition.
Susan Halpern, the current foundation president, will start a new institution that focuses on education, housing, and child welfare. Jane Bayard, a vice-president, will call her foundation MAT, which stands for “Mom, Amy, and Tim,” and will concentrate on arts, technology, education, housing, and possibly disabled youths. Linda Sanger, also a vice-president, is creating the EHA Foundation, which stands for education, health, and the arts.
A spokesman for the Uris daughters said the women had not yet announced how much money would be placed in the new funds.
