Va. Bill Would Limit Charity Services to Immigrants

Virginia legislators have approved a proposal that would punish charities and other groups for serving illegal immigrants who are 19 or older, reports The Washington Post.
The Republican-led Virginia House of Delegates voted 70 to 29 in support of a proposal that would make organizations ineligible for state or local funds if they used public money to aid illegal immigrants.
Legislators say such a measure is needed to stem the flow of illegal immigrants to the state.
Charities, however, say the proposal entails the cumbersome task of checking immigration status before providing assistance—and denying services to some needy people.
The proposal is now headed to the State Senate.
