Va. Mayor Resigns After Church-Theft Conviction

Carl Hutcherson, the mayor of Lynchburg, Va., and a Methodist pastor, resigned from the City Council after being convicted of stealing money from his church charity to pay back personal taxes and debts, among other charges, the Lynchburg News & Advance reports.
A jury found Mr. Hutcherson guilty on all seven counts of fraud and forgery. He has not yet been sentenced.
