Perfecting a fundraising pitch is no easy task. At The Chronicle’s Philanthropy Next conference, Peter Drury, director of corporate and foundation relations for pediatric hospital Seattle Children’s, led a workshop with attendees to critique their organizations’ appeals.

In this interview, Mr. Drury — who previously served as head of strategy for clean-water charity Splash — gives examples of dos and don’ts from his PhilNext session for using data, imagery, and other tools to craft compelling appeals to donors.

He also discusses how to develop “good neighbor” relations among nonprofit fundraising, program, and business staffs and becoming an “internal journalist” to share important stories between departments and carry them into conversations with contributors. Watch the full interview for more examples of what fundraisers can incorporate into their appeals.
