A new volunteer program at a high school in Bellevue, Wash., helps students apply to college, reports The Seattle Times.
The three volunteers with College Corps guide juniors and seniors at Interlake High School through the college-admissions process, such as helping them pick colleges they would like to attend, filling out financial-aid applications, and writing personal essays.
It is open to students of all ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds, even those who don’t believe they have the grades or the money to go to college.
“I tell everyone, ‘There are more seats in colleges than bottoms to fill the seats. There is a place for everybody,’” says Ronna Weltman, a College Corps volunteer whose son is a senior at Interlake.
