Walmart Commits $100-Million to Aid Its Low-Wage Workers

February 19, 2015

Walmart Stores and the Walmart Foundation will give $100-million over the next five years to programs designed to help entry-level retail employees move up in their careers, report the Associated Press.

The gift will go toward skills training and job placement as well as toward standardizing training and certification, according to a news release.

The gift is part of a larger effort to help the company shed its image as a source of low-wage, dead-end jobs. As part of that effort, the company will raise 40 percent of its 1.3 million employees, the Globe says.
