Walton Family Foundation Commits $20 Million for Arkansas State Park

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Walton Family Foundation
$20 million matching grant to Delta Heritage Trail State Park to complete an 84.5-mile biking and pedestrian trail in the Arkansas Delta.
Morgan Stanley
$20 million to seven nonprofit groups to establish an alliance that will work with young people to reduce suicide attempts, treat depression, and address other mental-health problems that affect children. The U.S. recipients are the Child Mind Institute, the Jed Foundation, NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, and the Steve Fund; international grantees are Mind HK (Hong Kong), Place2Be (London), and the Scottish Association for Mental Health (Glasgow).
Nutrien
$10 million over 10 years to Colorado State University for scholarships and research in its College of Agricultural Sciences.
John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
$8.1 million through its Safety and Justice Challenge to five county governments in the United States to reduce over-incarceration and address racial and ethnic disparities in the criminal-justice system. The five recipients are Cook County, Ill.; Mecklenburg County, N.C.; Multnomah County, Ore.; Palm Beach County, Fla.; and Pennington County, S.D.
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
$4 million to the Dance Theatre of Harlem for capacity building and to increase staff and artist salaries at this professional ballet company and school.
Gambrell Foundation
$3 million to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation for its capital campaign to build an innovation lab at this public library in Charlotte, N.C.
Google.org
$3 million to the NAACP for its Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics program, which is designed to recruit and encourage black high-school students to pursue careers in the fields of STEM, humanities, business, and the arts.
Lilly Endowment
$1.5 million to Odyssey Impact for its campaigns to connect faith-based groups and secular communities working together toward common social-justice goals and to highlight personal stories in documentaries.
Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation
$1 million challenge grant to the Asolo Repertory Theatre for its capital and endowment campaign. The $1 million grant will match the first $3 million raised for the theater’s endowment.
New Grant Opportunity
Livestrong is accepting applications through its Livestrong Solution Grants program to support cancer-care projects. Projects and organizations must focus on post-treatment care, patient and caregiver education, comprehensive quality-of-life services, and streamlining systems for cancer patients. Acceleration grants worth between $5,000 and $20,000, and multiyear transformation grants worth between $25,000 and $100,000 are available. Letters of interest are due February 21, with a deadline of April 13 for full applications.
