Washington Museum Taking a New Approach

July 19, 2006

Paul Greenhalgh, the new director of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, wants to turn the Washington institution into a think tank for the art world, reports The Washington Post.

But first, he needs to help the museum recover from a feud between his predecessor, David Levy, and the board of directors, stemming in part from the collapse of a plan for a $200-million annex designed by the architect Frank Gehry, says the newspaper.

Mr. Greenhalgh has already made some changes, scrapping most of the shows the museum had planned and firing three curators and two department heads.
