Waverley Street Foundation Taps First Head of U.S. Programs

Waverley Street Foundation

Joya Banerjee has been tapped as head of U.S. programs, a new role at the $3 billion grant maker. Laurene Powell Jobs, founder and president of the Emerson Collective, seeded the foundation for climate-change grants in 2021.

Banerjee was most recently a consultant on water, climate, and policy issues, and previously served as program director for the environment at the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation.

Associated Press Foundation for Journalism

Rachel White will be the first executive director of this fundraising organization for the Associated Press and its work to strengthen state and local newsrooms nationwide.

She joins the AP from The Guardian, where she was executive vice president for its global philanthropy program and president of theguardian.org.

The Arc of Massachusetts

On November 2, Maura Sullivan will be promoted to CEO of this advocacy organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism. A parent of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, she has worked there since 2011 and was most recently its deputy executive director.

Sullivan will succeed Leo Sarkissian, who has led the organization for 33 years and will retire on November 1.

Georgetown U. Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership

Luisa Boyarski, associate director, will be promoted to director on January 1.

She will follow Kathy Kretman, who plans to step down after 22 years at the helm of this institute housed within the university’s McCourt School of Public Policy.


More New CEOs

Adam Aponte has been promoted from chief medical officer to CEO of the East Harlem Council for Human Services. In addition, Daniel Ramirez has been hired as its chief operating officer. Previously he was director of operations at Betances Health Center.

Caitlin Lewis, a leadership consultant to companies and organizations, is now executive director at Work for America, a new nonprofit that aims to recruit and retain leaders in the public sector.

Caroline Rayburn, vice president of account management, was promoted to president of HSP Direct, a direct-response fundraising company for conservative organizations.

Monica Roberts will become CEO of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts on November 1. Currently she is senior vice president and executive director of City Year Greater Boston. Roberts will replace Barbara Fortier, who has retired after 23 years at the scouting organization.

Other Notable Appointments

Marla Eglash Abraham, western regional director for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, has joined the Holocaust Museum LA as chief advancement officer.

Davina Dukuly, director of communications and media relations at the Rockefeller Foundation, has become director of communications at Surgo Health.

Darryl Henderson will now serve as senior vice president and chief human-resources officer at the YMCA of the USA. Most recently he worked as a consultant, focusing on executive coaching, human resources, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Greg Knott, associate vice president of advancement at the University of Connecticut Foundation, has been named associate vice president for development and alumni affairs at Quinnipiac University.

Lucy Lake, former CEO and executive adviser at CAMFED, has been hired as director of global engagement at the Yidan Prize Foundation. She was a Yidan Prize laureate in 2020.

Eunice Liriano has joined the Breast Cancer Research Foundation as managing director of P.L.A.Y. for Pink, which organizes golf tournaments to raise money for breast cancer research. Previously she was senior director of corporate partnerships at The Shed.

Noel Andrés Poyo has been named executive vice president of peer exchange, policy, and programs at the Housing Partnership Network. He has served for three years in the Biden-Harris Administration as deputy assistant secretary for community economic development at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Kyle Ridaught has been promoted from head of business operations to chief advancement officer at American Ballet Theatre.

Departures

Becky Porter, CEO and president of the Military Child Education Coalition for the past five years, plans to retire after a successor has been named.

William Rogers is stepping down after 10 years as president and CEO of Goodwill San Francisco Bay.
