Web Site Encourages Taxpayers to Donate Rebates

March 19, 2007

A new Web site hopes to inspire taxpayers to donate to charity some of the money they receive in refunds from their 2006 taxes, reports The Boston Globe.

Refunds for Good is focusing its efforts on the estimated $10-billion in federal telephone-tax refunds that will be paid out following a ruling that the government had been improperly collecting a long-distance excise tax. Taxpayers can expect up to $60 each as part of the refund.

The site names three charities as recipients of the donations: PeaceJam, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and the Solar Electric Light Fund.
