Will the IRS Chief Be a Good Red Cross CEO?

Trent Stamp, head of the watchdog group Charity Navigator, says the Red Cross’s decision
to hire Mark Everson, the commissioner of the IRS, as its new chief executive is a good sign for people who care about governance. But he wonders whether those inside the organization will welcome the fact that Mr. Everson has no experience running a charity.
Writing on his blog, Trent Stamp’s Take, Mr. Stamp said: “This looks like a splashy move, designed to make regulators and investors happy, but I’d be shocked if the volunteers and staff are celebrating right now that another high-profile outsider with no non-profit management experience or Red Cross connection is being brought in.”
He did, however, offer a positive review of Mr. Everson’s tenure at the IRS.
“He appears to be a competent leader and critical thinker,” he wrote.
