Following are winners and finalists in the business-plan competition organized by the Yale School of Management-Goldman Sachs Foundation Partnership on Nonprofit Ventures:

For CEI Community Ventures, a venture-capital fund that will make private equity capital investments in 15 to 18 small companies and provide operating support to more than 100 companies in economically strained areas in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
Dakota Area Resources and Transportation for Seniors
(West St. Paul, Minn.)
For the Darts Vehicle Maintenance Service, a business that offers repair and preventive- maintenance services for charities in the Twin Cities that transport clients in cars, vans, and other vehicles.

To open a “$1 Shopper” section at the organization’s thrift stores to sell new items, such as socks and underwear, cleaning supplies, and baby-care items.
(San Francisco)
For VolunteerMatch Corporate, an online service that allows companies to manage their employee- volunteer programs and to list the volunteer opportunities found on VolunteerMatch’s Web site on their internal Web sites.
I Do Foundation (Washington)
For I Do Charitable Wedding Services, which works with retailers to offer wedding-gift registries that donate a percentage of the purchase price of the gifts to a charity designated by the couple getting married.

For ElderArts, a business that provides hands-on art workshops to elderly people who reside in independent-living and assisted-living facilities.
Charles River Watershed Association

To manufacture and sell SmartStorm, a rainwater-recovery system that provides nonpotable water for lawn and landscape irrigation.

For an online service that offers training to child-care providers to meet their annual licensing requirements.
