Woman Executives Said to Give More

November 18, 1999 | Read Time: 1 minute

Senior-ranking female executives and business owners both volunteer and give to charity at a significantly higher rate than do other women, a survey by the National Foundation for Women Business Owners has found.

A survey of 184 women — executives who manage at least $100-million and business owners whose companies generate $15-million or more annually — found that 73 per cent of the women volunteer.

By comparison, only 62 per cent of all women volunteer, according to the latest research on giving and volunteering released last month by Independent Sector, a national coalition.

The findings on donations also differ. While 52 per cent of women give to charity, according to Independent Sector, 92 per cent of the female business leaders said they supported charities. The survey found that 54 per cent of the women surveyed give away at least $25,000 each year, with 19 per cent donating $100,000 or more.

A report on the survey findings, called “Philanthropy Among Business Women of Achievement,” can be obtained from Bruce Rosenthal, Communications and Public Relations Manager, National Foundation for Women Business Owners, 1100 Wayne Avenue, Suite 830, Silver Spring, Md. 20910-5603; (301) 495-4975. The cost is $50.
