Kenneth Lay, the convicted former Enron executive, not only resigned his position as a board member of the YMCA of Greater Houston late last week but also asked that the charity remove his name from its facility in Katy, Tex., reports the Houston Chronicle. The organization’s executive board approved the request in a unanimous vote.
A quorum of the full 64-member board must ratify the decision when it meets later this year, but the facility is already using the new name, Katy Family YMCA, the paper reports.
Mr. Lay donated at least $1-million to put his name on the building in 2000. He was found guilty May 25 on fraud and conspiracy charges related to the failure of the energy corporation he oversaw.
