A Warning on Soliciting Friends
April 5, 2001
To the Editor:
Your article “Getting Friends to Give” (February 22) is a helpful guide on the technique of raising charitable contributions from friends and family.
One notable omission, however, was a warning about the generally acknowledged, but largely unspoken, fact that successful approaches often result in reverse requests from the friend for support of his favorite charity. The volunteer who embarks on solicitation of friends and family should be prepared to expand her own list of favored charities.
