Consultant Bolsters Charities’ Bottom Line

April 5, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

To the Editor:

My charity is a member of one of the Combined Federal Campaign federations that is a client of Maguire/Maguire (“For Charity — and for Profit,” March 8).

The Chronicle’s article failed to address one very important issue: Why is it that so many charities have joined the CFC federations Maguire consults for, including a number that previously were affiliated with Maguire’s critics? The article noted that there were more than 900 of them, compared with an average of 80 or so in the federations critical of Maguire.

Speaking from the viewpoint of a workplace-federation member charity, I can tell you the answer is simple. Compared to being affiliated elsewhere, charities affiliated with Maguire’s client federations raise much more money at much lower cost and get much better service.

Every couple of years my organization does its due diligence to make sure we are in the right federation, where we can raise the most money. Every year so far it’s been a no-brainer decision. We make far more with our current federation and by following Maguire’s advice.
