Gifts Should Never Be Taken for Granted

September 10, 1998 | Read Time: 1 minute

To the Editor:

I was flabbergasted at the July 30 letter to the editor from Carl Rush (“Senator Dole’s Mixed Role in His Charity”) and his description of Senator Robert Dole as a “cash cow” who didn’t come through with more gifts as Mr. Rush had expected.

Development officers should never take any gift for granted or expect that one gift means that more are sure to follow. I won’t even comment on the use of the term “cash cow” except to state that I hope for Mr. Rush’s sake that none of his current donors read his letter.
