Moving Locale Can Cause Problems

To the Editor:
In response to your article, “Seeking a New Lease on Life” (December 14), I have a word of caution for the urban charities thinking of leaving the city. The Association on American Indian Affairs moved from its New York City location of more than 60 years to an Indian reservation in South Dakota, saving more than $100,000 a year in our donors’ money. But, instead of being patted on the back for doing what was right for the association (and using donors’ money for projects instead of overhead), we are now disqualified from most corporate and foundation giving because our office is outside their “geographical preference.”
