New Standards Won’t Confuse Fund Raisers

May 13, 2004 | Read Time: 1 minute

To the Editor:

I agree with much of your April 15 article on the National Committee on Planned Giving’s new valuation standards (“New Standards Issued on Calculating Worth of Planned Gifts”).

However, I’d like to relieve the minds of readers on one point, expressed by two planned-giving experts quoted in the article, that the valuation standards are “so complex they might confuse fund raisers.”

While the valuation standards may reflect a higher level of sophistication than many fund raisers currently use in analyzing their planned-giving programs, the NCPG valuation standards task force has gone to great lengths to educate fund raisers as to the underlying concepts.
