Drug companies should emulate the behavior of Sanofi-Aventis, which is working with the nonprofit group Doctors Without Borders to deliver a cheap and easy-to-use pill to fight malaria in sub-Saharan Africa, says an editorial in The New York Times.
The company makes no profit on the drug and has agreed not to patent its formula so that other companies can produce even cheaper versions of the same drug to treat malaria worldwide.
