Opinion: Clinton Foundation Should Close if Hillary Wins

August 17, 2016 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Clinton Foundation should stop fundraising now and make plans to shut down in November if Hillary Clinton wins the White House, The Boston Globe editorializes.

The foundation launched by former President Bill Clinton “has done admirable work” but represents an “inherent conflict of interest” for a potential Hillary Clinton administration, the newspaper writes. The editorial cites recently released emails indicating cooperation between ranking foundation and State Department aides during Ms. Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, despite her pledge to maintain a wall between the two entities.

“That was bad enough at State; if the Clinton Foundation continues to cash checks from foreign governments and other individuals seeking to ingratiate themselves with a President Hillary Clinton, it would be unacceptable,” the Globe writes. “If the foundation’s donors are truly motivated by altruism, and not by the lure of access to the Clintons, then surely they can find other ways to support the foundation’s goals.”
