Opinion: D.C. Schools Chief’s Style Costs System Donors

The frosty relationship between Michelle Rhee, the chancellor of the school system in the District of Columbia, and local foundations and other donors is keeping philanthropists from helping the cash-strapped system, according to a Washington Post columnist.

Ms. Rhee, who has long been involved in nonprofit efforts to push school improvement, has garnered national attention with her blunt style and fights with teachers’ groups. In the process, she has alienated past and potential donors by declining to disclose how their money would be spent or give supporters a bigger role in offering policy advice, writes Robert McCartney, a columnist for the newspaper.
