Opinion: Giving by Wealthy Individuals in India Is Lower Than Expected

According to a recent study from Bain & Company, an international consulting firm, philanthropic contributions from individuals and corporations in India make up only 10 percent of charitable giving, reports The Wall Street Journal.
The Bain Study on Philanthropy, in India, says the balance comes from foreign organizations and governments.
Durga Raghunath, the Journal article’s author, suggests the lack of tax incentives and a philanthropic network, coupled with public doubts that donations will be used for their intended purposes, hamper giving by Indians.
