Opinion: Supreme Court Is Right to Review Tax-Free Gifts to Religious Schools

An editorial in the Los Angeles Times says it is important that the Supreme Court review the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals conclusion that a program offering tax credits for donations to provide scholarships for private schools goes against the separation of church and state.
Religious schools provide a needed alternative to struggling public schools, especially in urban areas, writes the newspaper. “If nonsectarian private schools are to benefit from tax credits,” the Times adds, so should private religious schools.
