President Bush and Religious Groups

May 4, 2006

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

To the Editor:

Your article about President Bush’s efforts to encourage companies to support religious groups is disturbing (“President Appeals to Companies to Expand Giving to Religious Groups,” March 23).

What happened to the constitutional concept of separate church and state?

Our nation is the most charitable country in the world. Let the funders decide what they want to support. It is not the responsibility of the federal government to prompt the public to fund religious organizations.
