Public Funds Shouldn’t Support Offensive ‘Art’

To the Editor:
Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s reaction to the offensive matter displayed at the Brooklyn Museum of Art is a completely appropriate response (“Drawing the Line in Brooklyn,” October 21).
The courts have forced religious universities to open their campuses to organizations advocating behavior offensive to their moral codes, precisely because these universities receive federal aid. It would seem to me that the reverse is fair play, for apparently, control follows money. Public money should not be expended on “art” that demeans the religious belief of others.
It appears from the article that private resources are available to the museum to pay for this display. Let those who value it, pay for it.
