Skills-based volunteering, also known as “smart volunteerism,” seeks to match volunteers’ professional expertise or experience with the needs of charitable organizations and is attracting growing attention in the business and nonprofit worlds, reports The Boston Globe.
This contemporary approach to volunteerism is proving doubly beneficial for charities and their supporters, providing volunteers with valuable job experience that makes them more marketable professionally and charities with assistance that strengthens them internally and helps their constituents.
