Social Innovation Fund Not ‘Shaky’

October 28, 2012 | Read Time: 1 minute

To the Editor:

The article “Continued Federal Support for Social Innovation Fund Looks Shaky” (October 18) did not reflect my full sentiments.

While the SIF funding has caused the additional administrative burdens reflected in the article, there are also benefits associated with the funding and our relationship with our intermediary, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, that make those additional burdens worthwhile.

Most notable are the training and capacity-building support we have received from LISC, and opportunities to network and share with other subgrantees who are doing the same work. Because of this support we are able to deliver more impactful results than ever before.

I firmly believe that the positive impact the SIF funding has had on Cincinnati Works outweighs the additional administrative work we have experienced. SIF funding is doing precisely what it was intended to do in advancing organizations like Cincinnati Works with best practices of a proven model.
